The Diagnostic Imaging Department at Angell supports the specialty services of the hospital by providing comprehensive in-house diagnostic expertise and technology. With three board-certified radiologists and all modalities available seven days a week, we are well equipped to manage all desired imaging requirements.
Our in-house services include digital radiography, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, an 80-slice Canon Aquilon Lightning CT scanner, and a 1.5 Tesla MRI. Please see available services below and/or contact us with any questions you might have.
Our Services

Access to a full range of imaging technologies to evaluate the many and varied clinical problems with which animals present. In-house services include:
- Digital Radiography
- Ultrasound: Including referral outpatient ultrasounds for stable patients
- Fluoroscopy
- Multi-slice Computed Tomography (CT): Great cross-sectional imaging of thorax and lungs (tumors, met checks, vascular anomalies), abdomen (tumors, foreign bodies, vascular anomalies), and orthopedic structures (including ability to reconstruction of fractures tumors, and congenital malformations)
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): Mainly used for our neurology patients to evaluate the brain and spinal cord
- Nuclear Scintigraphy
- Bone scans to evaluate for lameness, including bone tumors
- Trans-splenic portal scintigraphy to evaluate for portosystemic shunts
- Real-time GFR (glomerular filtration rate) analysis for evaluation of renal function prior to nephrectomy
- Thyroid analysis to evaluate our hyperthyroid patients, or to evaluate for size and/or metastatic spread of thyroid cancer
- Iodine 131: Treatment for Feline Hyperthyroidism
- Contrast studies available including barium studies of the intestinal tract (esophagram, upper GI series) and the use of iodinated contrast to image the urinary tract (excretory urography, cystourethrography)
